Jumping on the CW's Riverdale comic-turn-noir bandwagon!

Riverdale premieres Thursday, January 26 at 9/8c on The CW! 'Riverdale' is written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions and has been described as a subversive take on the classic Archie mythos. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa serve as executive producers.

He's also the guy who would play Conan O'brien in his biopic.

Here’s the teaser for CW’s Riverdale, the new show based upon the Archie Comics. At first I was doubtful. How could the source material possibly make sense on today’s television. But then I saw the blood on their hands, the ominous cheerleaders and solemn Jughead to the dark strings of a haunting female voice in a slow, creepy song. (Side note promo people, if you want to imbue intrigue into a spot, always use a haunting female voice over creepy metal strings!) Well, this spot takes a dark turn, I thought. And instead of railing against it, I find myself rooting for it. Mostly because, if successful,  I could get in on this trend with comic-turn-noire pitches of my own.

ALL CHUCKED UP – Someone is after good ‘ol Charlie Brown. On every baseball field, in every dog house, around every school yard lurks danger. Could it be his best friend the blanket dependent Linus? Or his dog who who has delusions of WWII grandeur? Or maybe his needy, selfish sister Sally. As we meet the endless cast of characters we realize that it could anyone and everyone has a reason to take out that public blockhead.  Framed around his weekly psychiatric visits, it slowly comes out that all these dangers could just be in Charlie's balding head. Or is Lucy trying to get Charlie off guard? Every week we dive into the neurosis of one of the characters on the discovery of whether Charles is paranoid or is someone really out to get him?

Theme Song: Hurt (as performed by Enya)

THE BUMSTEADS - When it's discovered that Dagwood has a tape worm and needs an intestinal transplant not covered by medical insurance, it's up to Blondie to find work and quick. Claiming to her rosy nice family that she got a boring office job Blondie has secretly taken up adult modeling to make the money quickly. As Dagwood recovers from extensive gut replacement, Blondie sinks deeper and deeper into the adult film world.  Slowly she becomes a powerhouse producer and star which threatens to expose her secret life. As the stress between home life and work life mounts, Blondie finds herself becoming the Heisenberg of Porn as her loyalties to her career and to her marriage collide.

Theme Song: Happy Together (as performed by Die Antwoord)

KEANE MINDS –The Keane family thought they were just another suburban family circus until they discover that they were touched by god and can see and interact with the Angels of Guilt. These angels appear as ghost known as Not Me, Ida Know and, their leader, Nobody. With their gift, Billy, Dolly, Jeffry and PJ form a Christian Scooby Gang who, with the help of the Angels of Guilt, step into the eternal battle between good and evil, all while making a dotted line home in time for dinner.

Theme Song: Personal Jesus (as performed by Randy Newman.)
